Tina Alster

Dr. Tina Alster is a world renowned lecturer and author on cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery. She is the founding director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC as well as the consulting dermatologist to Lancome, assisting with the new product development and industry direction.

Dr. Alster serves on several medical, editorial and advisory boards, including the Skin Cancer Foundation, Sturge-Weber Foundation, Dermatology Foundation, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery. She also sits on the Board for Duke University where she established a scholarship endowment for women wishing to pursue a career in medicine. She has received numerous honors and awards for her contributions to the field, including the prestigious Leon Goldman Lectureship Award from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and Allure Magazine's Influencer of the Year.

Holly Atkinson

Dr. Holly Atkinson brings a unique blend of experience and skill to her work; she has business acumen, media savvy, editorial proficiency, and medical expertise. Dr. Atkinson has degrees in both medicine and journalism, as well as broad international business experience. She has worked in print, broadcast television, and web-based technologies for both the medical professional and healthcare consumer. Dr. Atkinson's extensive experience as a medical correspondent includes assignments with NBC's Today show, the CBS Morning News, Lifetime Medical Television, and the PBS health show Bodywatch.

Dr. Atkinson has also been involved in several healthcare start-ups. Among them, she was a founder as well as President and CEO of Reuters Health Information, Inc. Prior to joining Reuters, Dr. Atkinson was Senior VP at Lifetime Medical Television for ten years, where she oversaw all of the programming on the network. Beyond her many business pursuits, Dr. Atkinson is currently Assistant Professor of Public Health (courtesy) in the Department of Public Health at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. In addition, she is President of the Nobel Prize winning non-profit organization, Physicians for Human Rights.

Laura Carstensen

Dr. Laura L. Carstensen is Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department at Stanford University. She also directs the Stanford Center on Longevity and the Life-Span Development Laboratory. Her specialties include socio-emotional selectivity theory and motivational changes across the life-span. Dr. Carstensen currently serves on the Board of Science Advisors (Beirat) to the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, Germany, and is Chair of a National Academy of Sciences Committee on the future of social research on aging. Dr. Carstensen is a fellow in various professional organizations including the American Psychological Society and the American Psychological Association. Among her honors are Stanford University's Deans Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Richard Kalish Award for Innovative Research. In 2003, Dr. Carstensen was selected as a Guggenheim Fellow.

Joycelyn Elders

Dr. Joycelyn Elders was appointed by President Clinton to be Surgeon General of the Public Health Service. She was the first African American to serve in that position. As Surgeon General, Dr. Elders argued the case for universal health coverage, and was a spokesperson for President Clinton's healthcare reform effort. She was a strong advocate for comprehensive health education, including sex education, in schools. Upon her resignation, she returned to the University of Arkansas Medical Center where she serves as a professor of pediatrics.

Prior to her appointment as Surgeon General, Dr. Elders spent several years as a professor of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas Medical Center. Her research interests focused on endocrinology, and she received certification as a pediatric endocrinologist in 1978. Dr. Elders became an expert on childhood sexual development. While Director of the Arkansas Department of Health (appointed by then-Governor Bill Clinton), Dr. Elders' accomplishments included a ten-fold increase in the number of early childhood screenings annually and almost a doubling of the immunization rate for two-year-olds in Arkansas. She has a BA from Philander Smith College (Little Rock, AK), an MS in Biochemistry, and MD from the University of Arkansas.

Tom Eng

Dr. Tom Eng, VMD, MPH, is a national expert in eHealth strategy and product development, and the application of emerging technologies to healthcare and public health. He is the Founder & CEO of Healia, Inc., a next generation health search engine company. Dr. Eng is also President of EvaluMetrix LLC, an eHealth consulting company, and the eHealth Institute, a nonprofit organization that explores ways to use emerging technologies to improve public health. He is chair of the renowned eHealth Developers' Summit; Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington; a judge for the Global Social Venture Competition; a member of the National Advisory Committee for the Health e-Technologies Initiative, and an advisor to several nonprofit and commercial ventures. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters, and abstracts on a wide range of health and technology issues. Dr. Eng is an associate editor of the Journal of Health Communication, and is on the editorial board of Internet Healthcare Strategies. In addition, he has provided health-related consultations in more than a dozen countries on six continents. Dr. Eng is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.

Dr. Jay Friedman

Dr. Jay Friedman is considered one of the top internists in the US, according to Best Doctors in America and has consistently been awarded one of the "Top Docs" in Phoenix Magazine every year since 1995. He is a Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In addition to his private practice at the Adult Internal Medicine of North Scottsdale, Dr. Friedman currently serves as Clinical lecturer, Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona. Until 2004, he served concurrently as the Medical Director of Eckstein Center for Palliative Care, Life Care Center of Scottsdale and Hospice of the Valley. Dr. Friedman received a BA in Biological Sciences from UCLA and his MD from University of Texas Health Science Center, Southwestern Medical School.

Frank Greenway

Dr. Frank Greenway is the Medical Director at the Pennington Center outpatient research clinic. Pennington is a research campus of the Louisiana State University System. His area of research interest is in the treatment of obesity and the diseases associated with it, such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, known as the metabolic syndrome, with particular emphasis on developing new drugs and nutriceuticals for the treatment of obesity. Dr. Greenway was in the private practice of internal medicine, endocrinology, and metabolism in Marina Del Rey, California from 1975 to 1995. In that capacity, he also did clinical research and taught part-time at UCLA where he was a Clinical Professor. In 1995, he came to the Pennington Center. Dr. Greenway graduated from Stanford University and UCLA Medical School. He did an internship, residency in internal medicine, chief residency, and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

William L. (Bill) Haskell

Dr. William Haskell has been a member of the faculty at the Stanford University School of Medicine for the past 35 years with primary interests in applied and clinical research in chronic disease prevention and successful aging. He has been an investigator on numerous single and multi-center clinical trials investigating chronic disease prevention or outpatient management. Of particular interest has been the role of habitual physical activity and nutrition in metabolic and hemodynamic factors contributing to heart attacks and strokes. Much of Dr. Haskell's recent and current research is directed at effective programs that integrate lifestyle changes with medication management for the prevention of selected chronic diseases and the promotion of successful aging. As part of this effort, he directs the Stanford Heart Network, an Internet based program that assists health professionals located in clinics, hospitals, worksites and community agencies in conducting more effective chronic disease prevention programs.

John Jakicic

Dr. John M. Jakicic is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Health and Physical Activity at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Jakicic is also the Director of the Physical Activity and Weight Management Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh. He is known for his research in the areas of the varying doses of exercise on long-term weight control, the use of intermittent exercise to promote adoption and maintenance of physical activity in overweight adults, and the use of behavioral strategies to improve long-term weight loss outcomes. Moreover, he is currently examining the role of exercise in the prevention of weight gain, and interventions related to diabetes prevention and treatment in children and adults.

Dr. Jakicic is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and his research focuses primarily on the role of exercise in weight control. He has numerous publications and presentations in the area of exercise and weight control, including publications in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Obesity Research, International Journal of Obesity, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and other peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Jakicic received his BS degree in Physical Education and Health and his MS degree in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He received his PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Meg Jordan

Meg Jordan, PhD, RN, is a medical anthropologist, international health journalist, CEO of Global Medicine Enterprises, Global Health Media, and editor and founder of American Fitness Magazine. Called a "leading health trendspotter" by USA Today and Newsweek, she is known as the Global Medicine Hunter on her syndicated radio show. She is a former health correspondent for FOX-TV and NBC's "Today Show." Her groundbreaking reports on health, wellness and cultural trends are distributed to over 1,800 major newspapers and magazines worldwide. She serves on numerous advisory boards, including the National Wellness Institute, and has served as trustee of Governor's Council of Physical Fitness and Sports California, the Health Medicine Institute, and California Institute of Integral Studies, and ValleyCare Health System. A sought-after keynote presenter, she was awarded the Healthy American Fitness Leader Award by the Jaycees and the White House.

Randy Kidd

Dr. Randy Kidd is a veterinarian who has experience in many different types of conventional practice (farm animals, horses, small animals, exotic species, and emergency medicine) as well as animal pathology, and is now focused on alternative medicines. Dr. Kidd has taken post-doctoral courses in veterinary acupuncture, homeopathy, and chiropractic, and is currently teaching the Options for Animals chiropractic course in Kansas. For more than a dozen years, he worked as a holistic vet, in Kansas City and San Francisco. His medical interests include: acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, herbs, nutrition, behavior, and shamanism.

Dr. Kidd has written two books: Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Dog Care and Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Cat Care, and has continuing columns in the magazines Herbs for Health and Whole Dog Journal. He is now a full time consultant, providing information on alternative medicines and how they can be used to enhance the human-animal bond as well as for healing pets and their people. Dr. Kidd's primary focus has been to help people see the importance of reuniting the human spirit with the soul of nature, using our pets as the bridge to make this connection. Dr. Kidd is a graduate of Ohio State University, and earned a PhD in veterinary pathology and clinical pathology from Kansas State University.

Dr. Richard Lam

Dr. Richard Lam is a prostate oncology specialist who has published several well-regarded case studies in medical journals and lectures frequently. He is a Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also currently engaged in many clinical trials for prostate cancer. Dr. Lam has a BS in biology and MD from UCLA. Dr. Lam is a member of the Cancer Committee at the Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Marina Del Rey, California and is on the advisory board of the Prostate Cancer Institute. Dr. Lam is also a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Pepper Schwartz

Dr. Pepper Schwartz is Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington. Dr. Schwartz is the relationship expert at Perfectmatch.com, and creator of their well regarded compatibility system, Duet, favorably reviewed in the February 2006 Atlantic Monthly. She is the author of over 15 books and over 40 academic articles, and has collaborated with major political figures, including serving on President Ronald Reagan's Council on the Family, and as consultant to Al and Tipper Gore on their book, Joined at the Heart. Past president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and also the Pacific Sociological Association, she has been given many awards for excellence in research and education, among them the Matrix Award from Phi Beta Kappa, and the 2005 award from the American Sociological Association for Public Understanding of Sociology.

Dr. Schwartz has been a board member of SIECUS (the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States) and the Young Women's Christian Association. She is a frequent contributor to the Today Show, Oprah, Dateline, and other important national media. Dr. Schwartz received her MA and BA from Washington University in St. Louis and her PhD from Yale University.

Charles D. Spielberger

Dr. Charles D. Spielberger, PhD, ABPP, is Distinguished Research Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Research in Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology at the University of South Florida, where he has been a faculty member since 1972. He previously directed the USF Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, and was a tenured faculty member at Duke (1955-62), Vanderbilt (1963-66), and at Florida State University (1967-72), where he was also Director of Clinical Training. A Diplomate in Clinical Psychology of the American Board of Professional Psychology and Distinguished Practitioner of the US National Academies of Practice, he served as a Training Specialist in Psychology (GS-15) at the National Institute of Mental Health (1965-67) and was a Research Fellow in 1979-80 and 1985-86 at The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study.

Author, co-author or editor of more than 400 professional publications, Dr. Spielbergers's current research focuses on: anxiety, curiosity, depression, and the experience, expression and control of anger; job stress and stress management; and the effects of stress, emotions and lifestyle factors on the etiology and progression of hypertension, cardiovascular disorders and cancer. His research contributions have been recognized in the awards he has received from the American Psychological Association (1993), the APA Divisions of Clinical, Community, and International Psychology, the Florida Psychological Association (1977, 1988), the Society for Personality Assessment (1990), and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Stress and Anxiety Research Society (STAR, 1998). During 1991-1992, Dr. Spielberger served as the 100th President of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Thomas Peter Stein

Dr. Thomas Peter Stein is Professor of Surgery, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Surgery, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He has won several awards and commendations for his work with NASA and the American Institute of Aviation and Astronautics. Currently he is the UMDNJ representative on the NJ Space Grant Consortium and responsible for organizing the Triennial Life Science Space Symposium to be held at the New Jersey State Convention Center on Astrobiology. Wayne Westcott

Dr. Wayne Westcott is an internationally recognized fitness professional who develops innovative exercise programs, conducts exercise research studies, writes for several fitness publications (Prevention, Shape, Fitness, Self, Perspective, Fitness Management, etc.), gives fitness presentations to numerous organizations (U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, Ford Motor Company, Penn State University, Boston University, World Bank, etc.), speaks at most major fitness conferences, and authors books on physical fitness and strength training (20 books to date).

During his 35 years in the fitness field, Dr. Westcott has been a consultant for a variety of organizations (Nautilus, General Motors, President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, YMCA of the USA, Beverly Healthcare, etc.). Dr. Westcott has received Lifetime Achievement Awards and similar honors from a dozen professional associations and colleges.
